PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK(CHAIR)
"THEY SAID A CANVAS CAN BE A FLYING CARPET!"
A View Of The Cave Of Wonders
Zena Morellini Marketing and Development Manager for the Deckchair Theatre Company is still in a state of shock after her meeting with designer Erica Wardle. " I showed up at Miss Wardle's workplace expecting to see a nicely decorated deckchair". Miss Morellini went on further to explain that the Deckchair Theatre requested that 17 visual artists create original art work on the canvas of deckchairs for a live auction on September the 1st. She talked openly for the first time about the striking examples of art that she had received for the auction and how all the designers had expressed perfectly the theme for this year 'Courage'. The manager is visibly shaken as she begins her next sentence,"I thought that each designer understood that the seat they were given was a wooden framed deckchair. Lucas sent me an email explaining that their canvas was a painted, mini, persian rug with fringing and that it was a flying

carpet." She then went on to explain that "the flying carpet represented the risk each artist takes when embarking on a career in a creative field, that it took 'Courage' to have faith and believe!" "We really hope the people who attend the auction at Victoria Hall, 179 High St Fremantle understand that these designers really believe they are not dealing with a standard chair. Do not make eye contact when discussing the project."
