OPENING THE CAVE OF WONDERS
Anyone who has taken even a glance around our world here at ericaamerica would have noticed the recurring influence of the classical museum aesthetic in our work.
It was only natural therefore, that when the Western Australian Museum asked us to create a show there, combining pieces of our original work with pieces from their vast collection, we were happy take up the
opportunity. Having our work thought worthy of being on display in a museum has long been a dream of ours and we were only too happy to oblige the Museums request that upon the closing of the show the pieces we created become part of the permanent collection.
To be given an inside look at the collection and be able to choose objects for display was exciting enough, but to add to the satisfaction we were being charged with curating and designing a show that would interpret the works and world of legendary singer/songwriter Nick Cave.
Cave has long been a favourite of ours, here at ericaamerica, so the idea of a show that displayed his life's work was inspiring. Being invited to create the sister exhibition was a welcome challenge.
'Our selection process for objects was inspired by Nick Cave thematically, but our dual mission was to show the public just a taste of the depth and
breadth of the museum's collection of millions of pieces of valuable history.' says Lucas.
"The exhibition explores that dusty meeting place between the world of ericaamerica and the world of Nick Cave, taking direction from the material in Cave's music and presenting it through the eyes of the ericaamerica creative world."
A Cave Of Wonders was open at the Western Australian Museum from the 22nd of May and extended by popular demand to the 25th Of August.
